Far Canal
This rare nineteenth century canal has shaped Elwood’s pattern of settlement, its parks and public works, recreational spaces and wildlife habitat. Today the Elwood Canal Master Plan of Port Phillip Council is guiding its restoration from a drain to an aesthetic waterway. Woy Woy sits at the end of the canal beside the entrance to Port Phillip Bay. Follow the canal to Ormond Road shops and restaurant strip.

St Kilda
From penguins to theme parks, community gardens to fantastic eats and cocktails, there’s a reason why St Kilda is still Melbourne’s favourite beachside playground. Offering an unmistakable hip vibe, Acland Street is still a favourite weekend hang for Melburnians. Cicciolina in Acland St, The Stokehouse on St Kilda Beach and Di Stasio in Fitzroy St are our favourites places to eat.

Swim
Elwood Beach (and the doggie beach right beside it) is a gorgeous and eclectic part of the world and a short stroll from Woy Woy. The cycle path and walking track meander along the foreshore for as long as you like. Plenty of places along the way for a coffee or a cocktail.

Elwood
Our local village precinct, Ormond Road, offers an eclectic mix of restaurants, bars, boutiques, book, liquor and grocery stores – a short stroll along the canal. Check out our favourites Leaf – the organic grocer, Dandelion – Vietnamese fusion cuisine, Plain Sailing and Combi – our pick of the local brunches. Then of course, there’s Jerry’s, right behind Woy Woy.

Recomendations

Cicciolina
The centre piece of Acland Street cuisine since 1993. It feels like a dinner party in an eccentric artist’s home – charming authentic Italian vibe and menu.

Jerrys Milkbar
Its legacy didn’t save it from decline, though. Jerry’s shuttered during 2020’s Covid lockdowns, leaving regulars fearful it was the end of an era for the Barkly Street spot. Luckily for them, though, Jordy Catalano, Oliver Gualano and Nick Forge took over the space and have returned it to its former glory.
